Hey, guys!
I thought it would be useful to let you guys in on some locations that we frequent for good, cheap food around here. When you're running out of groceries for the week or when you just need a little something extra to hold you over after dinner, these places will be your best friend.
1. Pizza Hot Dog
No one actually knows what the real name of this place is, but we've taken to calling it Pizza Hot Dog because of the sign. You will pass Pizza Hot Dog every single day on your way to and from the institute and you will be tempted to buy food there every time you pass it. It's just a fact of life. I'm pretty sure it's open 24 hours, as well, as I've definitely passed it at 5 am and they're still serving up fried cheese and chickenburgers. It's great for those nights when you're working at the institute and you just need something quick to eat because it's about a 5-minute walk down the street. They have all kinds of sausages, pizza, kebabs, and sandwiches, most of which can be bought for less than 50 Kc. My personal favorite is the fried cheese sandwich. It's literally just a slab of fried cheese on a bun and you can get it with your choice of ketchup, mayonnaise, or onions. Either way, you can't go wrong at Pizza Hot Dog.
2. Giallo Rosa
This is another one of those places you're going to pass every day. It's a straight shot down the street from the Jiriho z Podebrad metro stop, which is the stop right by the pension where you'll be staying. They have all different kinds of delicious pizza for only 30 Kc per slice. Bonus: They're open pretty late at night after most other restaurants are closed.
3. Costa Coffee
This has become a favorite of pretty much everyone who studies at the Institute. It's on the corner right next to the Mustek stop (the institute's metro stop) and every day someone comes in with a coffee and a delicious-smelling pastry from Costa Coffee. If you need a quick caffeine fix between classes, it's perfect.
4. Alfredo Espresso Caffe
This coffee shop is literally right around the corner from the institute and although it's a little more pricey than some of the other options I've already covered, it's delicious. The hot chocolate there is so thick that you can eat it with a spoon. They also have a full sandwich menu if you're hungry, and they have free wifi, which is always a plus.
These places are all great because they're easily accessible, they're delicious, and they won't kill your wallet. Of course, these are only a few of the options you have when looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat. I'll keep you updated as we continue to find gems like these!
Until next time!
